Behind the Scenes: Filming On Location with Aaron Fry

December 19, 2011 Leave a comment

Dec 3rd we joined with Singer/Songwriter Aaron Fry to film a music video for his song “Just What I’m Missing” from his self-titled album. The weather was crisp and clear and it was one of those days when everything just goes right.

Notice the beautiful Shelby Mustang we’re shooting? We met Joe, the car’s owner, as he was driving by. We saw the car driving down the road and decided on the spot that we *had* to have it in the video. (Special thanks to our makeup artist Jess for Flagging him down!) Joe was a great sport and the car is a-MAZ-ing.

This was filmed on-location on the historic Lebanon green and we were graciously allowed permission to film on the property of the Governor Jonathan Trumbull House and Wadsworth Stable Museum, owned and operated by the Connecticut Daughters of the American Revolution. Startup Weekend Hartford – Miceli Team Member Wins People’s Choice

September 29, 2011 Leave a comment

Startup Weekend Hartford Logo

Startup Weekend is an intense 54-hour event which focuses on building a web or mobile application which could form the basis of a credible business. The weekend brings together people with different skill sets – primarily software developers, graphics designers and business people – to build applications and develop a commercial case around them.

Hartford recently hosted CT’s first ever Startup Weekend Hartford (cities such as Boston are in their 4th year of hosting with participation increasing each year).  The organizers of Startup Weekend Hartford included leadership from HYPE (Hartford Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs), MetroHartford Alliance, CCSU’s ITBD (Institute of Technology and Business Development) and University of Hartford’s Center for Professional Development.

The main objective of Startup Weekend Hartford is to create community among young professionals throughout CT business and, in the long run, boost the economy of CT by supporting entrepreneurs.  Miceli Productions HD sponsored the participation of our New Business Director, Lisa Niedermeyer, as a way of meeting and working with like-minded Nutmeggers.  Lisa worked with an 8 member team, led by founder of Social Hartford Clif Hirtle.  Her team walked away with The People’s Choice Award, voted on by all 75 participants that made up the 10 other teams.  Congratulations Lisa!  For those interested in the Startup Weekend concept, but who missed out on Hartford, check out Startup Weekend New Haven November 11 – 13 2011.

Wondering, “What the heck does this have to do with an HD video production studio?”  Miceli Productions cares about CT, the future of business in CT, and the professional development of our team.  That’s just how we roll.

September 19, 2011 Leave a comment

Miceli Productions HD recently created a brief web video communicating United Way of Southington‘s support of Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters. Produced as one of a series of upcoming web videos highlighting key programs supported by United Way of Southington and part of the 2011-12 United Way of Southington Community Campaign.

United Way of Southington Executive Director Carol Reilly announced the campaign launch August 31, 2011 stating,  “We want to get across to the people of our town that it is they who truly define United Way of Southington.” Recently appointed Honorary Campaign Chairperson Sheila Durant Robinson added, “My personal mission is to enhance the awareness of the people of Southington, that their contributions to United Way, in fact, help Southington people.”

These web videos are part of communicating that message through online engagement and include the launch of the Southington United Way YouTube Channel.

Who Says The Drive-In Movie is Dead?

June 23, 2011 1 comment

The Southington Drive-In is one of three remaining out door venues for film in the state of Connecticut.  It opened in 1954 and closed in 2002.  In 2010 the Drive-In was reopened but this time re-imagined as a community owned and operated project. This new vision and business model (renting the space out to civic groups and volunteers for fund raising events) resulted in $12,000 being raised by over 9 civic groups.  Sounds like there is some life in her yet!

Miceli Productions HD is proud to be a sponsor of the Southington Drive-In project and the producer of the pre-show advertising reel that plays before the feature film.  We love film and we love that one the last remaining out door film venues in the state can be revived and preserved.  Here’s the schedule for the summer – see you at the movies.

To view additional compelling photography of Drive-Ins from all over the U.S. (like the image you see about), visit the online photo gallery of Woodbury, CT photographer Carl Weese.

Where: 935 Meriden Waterbury Tpke Plantsville, CT

Cost: $10/carload for Southington residents, $13/carload for non-residents, $2/person for walk-ins.

Movie Schedule:

  • June 25 – “Karate Kid” (1984)
  • July 2 – “Close Encounters”
  • July 9 – “City Slickers”
  • July 16 – “Chitty, Chitty, Bang Bang”

Summer Film Industry Training Program at Quinnipiac University

April 28, 2011 Leave a comment

Connecticut’s film industry is growing – good news!  This means we need more people in CT who have mad-skills to support this growth.  There is a great economic incentive for CT to attract the film industry and, in attempts to do just that, the training of local film labor is being strongly encouraged.

Enter: the state funded FITP (Film Industry Training Program) taking place this summer from June 6th – July 1st at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT.  The program is intended for:

“individuals who want to learn the basics of feature film and episodic television production and potentially pursue entry-level freelance work in the industry.  The program is most appropriate for individuals with prior or current professional experience in the industry, college graduates with majors in film and digital media, and students currently enrolled in relative academic coursework.  High school seniors with significant experience in film or digital media production will also be considered.”

All applications for the 2011 Summer Film Industry Training Program must be submitted electronically, with $10 online application fee, by 5:00PM on Wednesday, June 1, 2011.

ABOUT the United Way of Southington

“On November 15, 1926, fifteen Southington volunteers signed a charter forming the Southington Community Chest. That first year those volunteers raised $7,300 and funded 3 local organizations: Southington Red Cross, Salvation Army and the Public Health Association.

Over the past eight decades, many local organizations received their initial funding from the Southington Community Chest; such as Recreation Park in 1929 and the 1945 allocation to the Hospital Corporation, which later became Bradley Memorial Hospital.

In 1975 the Southington Community Chest changed its name to the United Way of Southington. The organization had a new name but its focus did not change; local volunteers continued to raise money that stayed here in Southington helping people right here at home.” – (courtesy of United Way of Southington website)

Miceli Family Holiday Traditions in Connecticut

December 13, 2010 Leave a comment

Seasons Greetings from our family to yours! Christmastime is a magical time for the Miceli Family culminating in a long standing tradition of gathering everyone together on Christmas Eve (this year over 100 people!).  In the weeks leading up to that gathering, we try to share as much Holiday Good Cheer as possible, going to many of our local festive displays, and donating to Toys for Tots and Southington’s Bread for Life soup kitchen.

So whatever your holiday celebratory traditions may be, remember that spending time with family and friends, helping our fellow man and watching those little lights twinkle make the world a merrier place.  Below are links to our family’s favorite holiday traditions in Connecticut.

Good tidings to you for a safe and happy holiday!

Recipe for 1-2-3 Fast to Publish TV Commercial Spot

November 29, 2010 Leave a comment

The Reach Foundation hired Miceli Productions HD to create a TV and web commercial for their upcoming Reach Holiday Music Festival. Because the event producers were working on a tight time line, turn around for the media was essential.  To speed things along we suggested working with media elements that were already approved and in circulation, specifically:

  • event poster including talent and sponsors
  • radio spot voice over
  • press B roll video of the featured bands

Check out how we brought these elements together to create a TV and web commercial spot in a total of 5 business days from ask to deliver. (see video below)

Part of why we love running a small business in CT are the fantastic local people we get to work with and support.  The people behind The Reach Foundation definitely fall into that category.

Here’s a short list of the inspiring things The Reach Foundation has made happen for the communities of Connecticut:

  • Provided college scholarships to over 50 high school graduates
  • Provided a $150,000 endowment to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut
  • Provided funding to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Connecticut
  • 10% of the profits from Reach founders’ Mark and Wendy Wilson’s family owned Crazy Bruce businesses fund The Reach Foundation charities.
