“End to End” Production for Stubbs Art Studio

October 27, 2011 Leave a comment

When we get 30 seconds to tell someone about what we do at Miceli Productions we always try to fit in the concept of “custom” and “end to end”.  Those concepts communicate all the creative services and options housed within our video and photo production company.  Need a jingle? A voice over? To shoot on location? A script? A shot with a camera crane? Live animals? We’ve got you covered.  This week we share with you a recent example from the Studio.  A 30 second TV commercial spot for clients Gus and Barb Stubbs, Stubbs Art Studio, and their product line of Wearable Art.  End to end in 30 seconds… GO!

Marketing the Work of Digital Performing Artists

Christopher Eaves in CANOPY (video still)

Christopher Eaves is a performer, digital artist and arts educator.  His original work CANOPY – A Rainforest Odyssey premiered at the Stepping Stones Museum for Children in Norwalk, CT in their cutting edge multimedia gallery.  It’s an impressive space, with high-powered Christie projectors, an 18′ x 33′ immerse screen, interactive floor projection technology and configurable media technology systems for performers working within the digital arts.

Miceli Productions HD was hired by Eaves to create an archival video of CANOPY as well as a short marketing video to be used in the booking and promotional materials for the show.  Eaves creates all the amazing visuals that are projected and integrated into his original performances for young audiences.  Our goal was to capture the essence of his unique performance on video.  Click here to view this recent example of our work, and perhaps learn a little bit about the Rainforest.

Film Shoot Fashion: “Freaky” Footwear

Director Michael Miceli on set in Vibram FiveFingers footwear

Michael Miceli rockin' the Vibram FiveFingers

When shooting on location producer Michael Miceli swears by the “freaky” footwear specially developed for endurance athletes by Vibram FiveFingers.  We recently snapped a production shot of Michael wearing the shoes while working with our camera crane.

Looking at the website for Vibram FiveFingers is like peaking into the secret world of obscure sports…barefoot waterskiing, geocaching, technical tree climbing, paddleboard surfing.  In the minds of everyone at Miceli Productions HD we agree filming on location actually fits well into that list!  Cheers for happy feet!

Miceli Productions HD recently had the pleasure of shooting on location at Baldwin Stables (owned and operated by Karen and Jack Baldwin) in Deep River, CT.  Filming was for our new client Stubbs Art Studio (artists Gus and Barb Stubbs) and their unique product of Wearable Art, a line of equine themed embroidered apparel made from their original watercolor and acrylic paintings.

We could attempt to describe in words what a beautiful day we had filming, but seeing the production photos really tells the story.  Visit the behind the scenes photo album to meet Joker the Barn Cat, our talented young actress Lillyanna (age 10), see the stables (inside and out), and view lots of great photos of the horses being captured on camera in HD.

Haunting TV Commercial Spot from Printed Poster

August 18, 2011 Leave a comment

Check out the TV commercial Miceli Productions created for Hartford Stage’s upcoming production of The Crucible.  We started with the marketing image (below) provided by the client and then dug in with 3D animation to bring to life this haunting story of persecution and false accusations.  The performance opens September 1, 2011.

Who Says The Drive-In Movie is Dead?

June 23, 2011 1 comment

The Southington Drive-In is one of three remaining out door venues for film in the state of Connecticut.  It opened in 1954 and closed in 2002.  In 2010 the Drive-In was reopened but this time re-imagined as a community owned and operated project. This new vision and business model (renting the space out to civic groups and volunteers for fund raising events) resulted in $12,000 being raised by over 9 civic groups.  Sounds like there is some life in her yet!

Miceli Productions HD is proud to be a sponsor of the Southington Drive-In project and the producer of the pre-show advertising reel that plays before the feature film.  We love film and we love that one the last remaining out door film venues in the state can be revived and preserved.  Here’s the schedule for the summer – see you at the movies.

To view additional compelling photography of Drive-Ins from all over the U.S. (like the image you see about), visit the online photo gallery of Woodbury, CT photographer Carl Weese.

Where: 935 Meriden Waterbury Tpke Plantsville, CT

Cost: $10/carload for Southington residents, $13/carload for non-residents, $2/person for walk-ins.

Movie Schedule:

  • June 25 – “Karate Kid” (1984)
  • July 2 – “Close Encounters”
  • July 9 – “City Slickers”
  • July 16 – “Chitty, Chitty, Bang Bang”
  • July 22 – “American Graffiti”
  • July 23 – “Grease”
  • Aug 6 – “Ghostbusters”

Digital Brochures and Video Marketing

May 5, 2011 Leave a comment

The Hartford Business Journal 2011 CT Meetings and Events Guide has just been published, both in print and via digital brochure (also referred to as an e-brochure).  We find that many organizations we work with are using digital brochures for their online publications and we’re all for it – as incorporating video messages into those brochures is a natural extension of traditional marketing.

Miceli Productions HD was chosen by Event Resources Inc., the signature sponsor of Hartford Business Journal‘s 2011 CT Meetings and Events Guide, to produce an original web commercial showcasing Event Resources’ worry free approach to event management.  It’s an excellent example of incorporating online video into a digital brochure (if we don’t say so ourselves).

Working closely with Event Resources Inc. President, Arnold Berman, and Client Relationship Manager, Carol Frances, we created a minute long personalized and branded message targeted to CT businesses.  To view the web commercial and the digital brochure CLICK HERE.

Other noteworthy examples of digital brochures include:

Hartford Stage‘s STAGE NOTES: April 2011 Edition: The 39 Steps using digital brochure service UniFlip.com.

Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival’s 2011 Season Brochure using digital brochure service Issuu.com.

Summer Film Industry Training Program at Quinnipiac University

April 28, 2011 Leave a comment

Connecticut’s film industry is growing – good news!  This means we need more people in CT who have mad-skills to support this growth.  There is a great economic incentive for CT to attract the film industry and, in attempts to do just that, the training of local film labor is being strongly encouraged.

Enter: the state funded FITP (Film Industry Training Program) taking place this summer from June 6th – July 1st at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT.  The program is intended for:

“individuals who want to learn the basics of feature film and episodic television production and potentially pursue entry-level freelance work in the industry.  The program is most appropriate for individuals with prior or current professional experience in the industry, college graduates with majors in film and digital media, and students currently enrolled in relative academic coursework.  High school seniors with significant experience in film or digital media production will also be considered.”

All applications for the 2011 Summer Film Industry Training Program must be submitted electronically, with $10 online application fee, by 5:00PM on Wednesday, June 1, 2011.
